About Us
Our funeral service focuses on those who struggle to pay the high cost of traditional funeral services. Since we do not own a funeral home building, we are able to lower prices and passing on the savings to the families we serve
Our funeral director, a mixed blood Lakota, is committed to working with Native American families as well as any others who desire our services. Race, nationality, religious traditions and others have been divisive in past generations. The Lakota part of our business name, THE WAY OF THE PEOPLE, does not specifiy what people. We offer and deliver respectful care to all with whom we work. We understand the desire of many people to participate in the care of the deceased and we welcome family members to assist in dressing, applying cosmetics, caring for hair and other personal cares. Respect begins with meeting those who come to us as equal and important, giving each the consideration we would expect from funeral directors and consultant staff.
While many other funeral homes accept county fundings as payment for services, there is often an attitude that says, "I could do better without these funerals at all." We immediately begin by explaining what the particular county pays for funeral home care, and then work to provide goods and services that fit those prices without diminishing dignity and respect for the deceased and his/her family.
Margaret is with the Brooks funeral home here in Saint Paul and we are now working in close association with them. Our services are separate from the funeral home yet, their hearse is generally used for our services. Margaret is one of the most generous and kind women I know and with whom I have worked. She is committed to going the extra mile to provide the services each family requests. We depend upon this strength when presenting the whole of our services to families and the public.

Helen Williams began advocacy work with families years ago. She occasionally shares with us how she began knowing little about funeral planning but willing to learn what she must in order to bring dignity and affordability to the needy families who sought her assistance. Helen is no ordinary advocate; she will not give up until all paths have been exhausted. Additionally, Helen has been working with the MN branch of the Institute for Justice in changing and clarifying Minnesota funeral law especially changes regarding home death care, home funerals, green burials, and other options.
